Inter College Debate Competition – Agora 2K18 - 23^rd February 2018

We are living in a time that has seen an unprecedented increase in the use of and dependence on social media. So it is befitting to consider whether or not they are employed in their best use.

Agora 2K18 that was the title of the Inter-College Debate competition held on 23^rd February 2018 in our college auditorium. The theme of the debate was “Are the Modern Media on the right path?” The competition was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Babu Mattathil CMI, Manager, Girijyothi College, during a meeting presided over by Rev. Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal, Girijyothi College. Sri Abraham Kadavil, Manager, Federal Bank and Mathukutty  K M, Staff Coordinator for debate club extended their felicitations.

There were 11 teams representing 7 colleges and each team had two members each. Rev. Fr. Johnson Palippillil CMI, Principal, Chavara International School, Vazhakulam, was the moderator and the judging committee comprised of Sri. P K Kamalasanan, Sri. George Joseph and Sri. Biju Vyshyamparambil.

After a very fierce competition that shed light into the benefits and drawbacks of the social media and spanning multiple rounds, it was adjudicated that the first prize of Rs. 5000/- and ever rolling trophy would go to Mar Sleeva College, Rajamudi. Marian College, Kuttikanam won the second prize of Rs. 3500 and ever rolling trophy. Dhanya M P, JPM B Ed College, Labhakkada and Merlin Maria George of Mar Sleeva College were declared as the best debaters. All the contestants were given a Certificate of Participation.

The event was well coordinated by Mr. Mathukutty K M, Mr. Maneesh C. Vjyayan and Mr. Sivaprasad M S staff and student representatives of debate club. The first and second prize amounts were sponsored by Federal Bank, Cheruthoni and Idukki Home Furnishing, Cheruthoni. The even concluded with national anthem.

And that was to be the last item which brought the end to a marvellous day, a day that will long remain in everyone’s memory. The celebrations ended with national anthem.
