Arts
Fest - Talentine 2K18 - 22nd February 2018
A day marked
with unbridled joy, unrestricted freedom and unobstructed means of
self-expression. Art Fest -Talentine 2K18,
a festival of arts that brought to the full view of audience present the
immense talent and flair of sons and daughters of Girijyothi.
The day began
with a meeting and Mr. Amaldev Krishna, Arts Club Secretary, welcomed the
dignitaries onto the stage. The function was presided over by our Manager Rev.
Fr. Babu Mattathil CMI and Mr. PG Radhakrishnan, Additional District Magistrate
(ADM), Idukki, graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour. He exhorted the
students to uphold the values shared by St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara in their
lives. It was quite interesting to see pupils, who can barely sit without any
disturbance in a class for 50 minutes, glued to their seats attentively
listening to the eloquent speech given by the ADM for almost an hour. Following
his speech Rev. Fr. Babu Mattathil CMI, Manager, Girijyothi College, and Rev. Fr.
Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal, Girijyothi College, also addressed the
gathering emphasising the need to inculcate the values shown by St Chavara and
celebrate one’s life. Mr. SajailalSaji, College Union Chairman, Ms. Dani Wilson
Vice-Chairperson, and Mr. Sidharthan TB , General Secretary, extended the
felicitations.
Performers were
eager to be on stage and judges were ready. Not before very long and to the
delight of the awaiting crowd entertainment events began to roll out. There
were three venues and the crowd pulling items were scheduled for the principal
venue in the auditorium. Mr. Girijyothi and Miss. Girijyothi were the most
watched and applauded items. There were also other popular competitions like
light music, fancy dress, mimicry, mime, skit, oppana, folk dance brake dance
etc. The brake dance made the spectators wonder whether these students had
rubber stick instead of spine and greased metal ball sockets in place of their
knee cups. It is suffice to say that they were nothing less than a fest to the
eyes.
Befitting a day
that threw in one surprise after another, next on the stage was a member of the
faculty, Mr. Sivaprasad N, Staff Secretary and Head of the Department of
English with a Malayalalam kavitha Kallan of Dr. K. Ayyappapanikkar. He did
not merely recite it but re-enacted the scene with the anguish of a man
erroneously sentenced to be a thief. You could be forgiven if you mistook him
to be an actor.
And that was to
be the last item which brought the end to a marvellous day, a day that will
long remain in everyone’s memory. The celebrations ended with national anthem.
