Women’s
Day Celebration
Girijyothi
College has celebrated International Women’s Day on 8th March 2016.
The day’s proceedings began with a prayer song. Mrs. Shobhana Kumari, Dept. of
Commerce, welcomed the dignitaries to the programme. Mrs. Anoopa Joice George,
English Teacher, St. Jerome’s Higher
Secondary School, Vellayamkudy and the wife of Idukki MP Adv. Joice George,
inaugurated the function by lighting the lamp. She gave valuable insights to
the girls through her inaugural address. Thereafter Mrs. Usha Kumari, the chief
guest of the programme and winner of O.V Vijayan award 2015 delivered a thought
provoking key note address. Ms.Bismi Vijayan, Assistant Professor, Dept. of
English and Ms.Bibitha U.R, student representative felicitated the gathering.
On this occasion,lady teachers of the college were honoured by the girls from
various departments. The meeting was presided over by Ms. Amala John, Vice Chairperson
of the college.
The
winners of various competitions like Nightingale of Girijyothi and Miss
Girijyothi were honoured by the invited guests. Ms. Rincy Mathew (III B.Com -
Private) was selected as the Nightingale of Girijyothi. Ms. Akshara Johny (I
B.Com Finance and Taxation), Ms. Roniya Thomas (III B.Com - Private) and Ms. Simimol
Mathai (III B.Com - Private) won the tittles Miss.Girijyothi, First Runner up
and Second Runner up respectively. A thoughtful skit was presented by the
girls. It portrayed the present situation of women in society. This was
followed by the power point presentation by the students depicting the
contributions of great women personalities. Anchoring of the programme was done
by Ms. Amalu Pathrose. Ms. Akshara Johny, student representative women’s cell,
MHRD, New Delhi, thanked the gathering followed by national anthem.
