Cancer
Awareness Seminar – 8th December 2017
In collaboration
with Vazhathope Grama Panchayath and Primary Healthcare Centre, NSS Unit,
Girijyothi College, organised a seminar on Cancer Awareness. The seminar was
inaugurated by Mr. Roy Joseph Kochuparambil, the ward member, and presided over
by Dr. Siby George, Medical Officer, Primary Healthcare Centre, Vazhathope.
The keynote
address was delivered by Rev. Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal,
Girijyothi College, who stressed on the importance of staying healthy both in
mind and body, adding that today’s generation, especially the students, must
keep themselves away from the use of drugs and alcoholic consumption, which is
one of the primary causes of cancer. Dr. Suresh Kumar, head of the Department of Oncology, Medical
College, Kottyam led the seminar interestingly with lots of valuable
information. The aim of the seminar was to empower the NSS volunteers and Asha
Workers of Vazhathope Grama Panchayath, to conduct a cancer detection survey.
After the survey the detected cancer patients will be sent to Kottayam Medical
College for further treatment.
The other
orators also featured Mr. Soyi George, Helath Inspector, Ms. SaliKumaran,
Public Health Nurse and Mr.SabuPaulose, NSS Programme Coordinator.
