Camp Report
The
first seven days camp of NSS unit of Girijyothi College, Cheruthoni, began on
26th December 2016 at Calvary High School, Calvarimount, Idukki,
with the flag hoisting ceremony by Sri. Bijumon Thomas, Member, Kamashi
Gramapanchayat. Sri S.T. Augustine, President, Kamashi Gramapanchayat,
inaugurated the meeting with an inspiring talk. After the inaugural session the NSS Volunteers under the leadership of Mr.
Rubin John, NSS programme officer, did the construction of Calvarimount-Machankavala
road. The Volunteers in different groups worked very hard to make the road in
good condition. In the afternoon, they had an awareness class on “anti-addiction”
conducted by Sri. Jayan P. John, Exercise Inspector, Thankamani. Variety
entertainment programme were conducted in the evening. It was the time where
various inborn talents of our students came out with excitement. In the
following days various awareness classes like Traffic Awareness by Sri. Deji
Thomas, Constable of Police, Thankamani, class on Cyber Crimes by retired DYSP
Sri. Sasidharan and personality development by Sri. Anit Jose were conducted.
The Volunteers also visited Jeevan Tea Factory and “Kalyanathandu”a tourist
spot in Idukki district and conducted a cleaning campaign there. The Volunteers
also dug a waste pit for the school where the camp was conducted. An awareness
rally was conducted at Calvary Mount town to familiarize NSS to the general
public. The New Year eve was also made immemorable in the Camp with variety
entertainment programs. Camp Fire was the main attraction of the celebrations.
Idukki MLA Sri Roshi Augustine, Sub Inspector of Police Mrs. Joshi K. J. and Fr,
Toji Puthenkaduppil C.M.I. Principal Girijyothi College also visited the camp
to make the eve more vibrant. Dr. Sabukuttan, NSS Programme coordinator of MG
University, Kottayam, visited the camp for the closing ceremony. With the NSS
anthem the camp was declared over on 1st January 2017.
