KERALA FEST - 2016



            The one -day Handloom Cloth Exhibition, sales and seminar were organised by Girijyothi College in collaboration with State Handloom Directorate and District Industries Center on 21 January 2016 at college auditorium. Mr. Kalaiselvam, Manager and Deputy Registrar in-charge of Handloom Idukki, welcomed the gathering. The event was inaugurated by Mr. P.S Suresh Kumar General Manager, District Industries Center, Idukki. On this occasion, Mrs. Jyothilakshmi, Junior co-operate inspector, District Industries Center, Idukki, Mr. Prabhukumar K.J, Assistant Industries Officer and Mr. Ebin Paulose, College Union Chairman, felicitated the gathering. The meeting was chaired by Rev. Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal. The first session was concluded with vote of thanks by Mrs. Shobhanakumari, Academic Coordinator.
              The meeting was followed by a seminar lead by Mr. A. O. Augustine, President of Handloom sector, Panamkutty on the topic ‘Handloom and its job - marketing opportunities’.
            The afternoon was made colourful with traditional art forms performed by the students under the tittle ‘KERALIAM 2016’. The stunning unique performances like Thiruvathira, Oppana, Margamkali, Parichamuttu and Nadanpattu were the highlights of the programme. The chief guests of this session were Rev. Fr. George Kalachira CMI and 22 Germans, from Mϋnster, Germany. The visitors were honoured with handcrafted candles. Rev. Fr. Babu Mattathil CMI, head of Girijyothi Group of Institutions, distributed the prizes to the winners of various competitions which were conducted by District Handloom Department.
            Indeed, it was a great successful event. On the one hand it provided a platform to the District Handloom Sector to showcase their handloom textiles and market it and on the other it could commemorate the culture, tradition, handloom and artforms of Kerala.
