Honouring Mr. Aneesh P. Rajan – 21st August 2019

Mr. Aneesh P. Rajan, resident of Cheruthoni, participated in the first twenty-twenty world cup for the differently abled persons at England during July-August 2019. India won the world cup and Mr. Aneesh was the man of the match for two times. He played a decisive role in the team with benchmarking contributions. Vazhathope Grama Panchayath organized a warm welcome to Mr. Aneesh. Rev. Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal, Girijyothi College, was elected as the convener of the public rally by the people of Cheruthoni. Students from all schools and colleges of Vazhathope Grama Panchayath participated in the rally. Apart from students, Kudumbasree members and general public were actively present. A bike rally of hundred youngsters led the rally. Teakwondo troops, scouts and guides, student police cadets were given special colour to the rally. Chendamelam and band-set by students made the rally live. Around two thousand persons participated in the rally. It was the biggest rally that the district headquarters witnessed in its history. It was the occasion of pride for the people of Idukki. MLA, District-Block-Grama Panchayath presidents, members, merchant association, various clubs, political leaders, religious larders etc. felicitated Aneesh. A memento of the people was gifted with pride. It was the occasion of joy and celebration. The beginning of his cricket practice at the small ground adjacent to Santhigram CMI Ashram was another feather to the cap of Girijyothi College.


College Union Election – 21st August 2019

College union election was conducted as per university schedule on 21-08-2019. Parliamentary mode was selected for the election procedure. To conduct just and impartial election, the following office bears were elected: Mr. Sivaprasad N - Returning Officer, Mr. Mathukutty KM - Presiding Officer, Mr. Vishnu Ravi - Observer. In addition a Greevance Redressal Committee was appointed. Ms. Sobhanakumari KS, Ms. Jyothimol NR, Mr. Mohan Chacko, Staff Repsentatives, Mr. Shinu KB, Ms. Sreekutty Soman, Student Representatives, were the members of the committee. Freshers Day – 30th July 2019

New buds of Girijyothi marched to the college with new dreams and aspirations. The newly admitted UG and PG students were given a warm welcome by the senior students. Flowers were given as a token of love and good wishes. Rev. Fr. Babu Mattathil CMI, Manager, presided over the function. Rev. Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal, Mr. Mathukutty KM, Staff Representative, felicitated the new Girijyothians. Variety entertainment programmes coloured the function with cultural attraction. Beginning of M. Com Classes – 22nd July 2019

The first batch of M. Com course was officially started on 22nd July 2019. Rev. Dr. Fr. Reji Pazhoor, MBA, MA, M. Phil, Ph.D, Principal, Marian International Institute of Management, Kuttikkanam, inaugurated the new PG programme. He exhorted the students about the need of higher studies and academic discipline in their lives. Mr. Sivaprasan N, Staff Secretary, welcomed the gathering. Rev. Fr. Babu Mattathil CMI, Manager, Girijyothi College, presided over the function. Rev. Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal, Girijyothi College, delivered the keynote address. Mr. Mathukutty KM, Staff Representative, Ms. Mithra Benny Student Representative, felicitated the gathering. Mr. Ajo Joji, Student Representative, led the audience to the world of music. Ms. Ayana Mary Mathew, M. Com Student, proposed vote of thanks.


Painting and Collage Competitions – 28th June 2019

Santhigram Welfare Centre, Paremavu, in collaboration with Kerala State Excise Department conducted a painting and collage competition for the schools at Vazhathope Grama Panchayath. Painting competition was for students of 5-8 classes and collage for 9-12 classes. The anti-addiction club and NSS Unit of Girijyothi College associated with the programme. Competitions were conducted in respective schools from 02:00 pm to 03:30 pm. The official inauguration was conducted at Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Vanchikavala, Vazhathope. Ms. Rincy Siby, President, Vazhathope Grama Panchayath, opened the competitions.  Mr. Prasad Mathew, Assistant Inspector, Excise Department,  Thankamani, Rev. Fr. Babu Mattathil CMI, Director, Santhigram Welfare Centre, Mr. Roy Joseph, Member, Vazhazthope Grama Panchayath, Mr. Suresh PS, PTA President and Member, Vazhathope Grama Panchayath, Mr. KM Jalaludeen, Memebr, Vazhathope Grama Panchayath, Mr. Jomy Joseph, Principal, GVHSS, Vanchikavala, Mr. Pradeep Kumar, Head Master, Government High School, Vanchikavala, Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal, Girijyothi College felicitated the gathering. From Fourteen schools, five hundred and sixteen students participated in the competitions. Anti-addition club and NSS Unit of Girijyothi College invigilated the competitions. School authorities, students and parents co-operated well in the programme.


International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking – 26th June 2019

Drugs destabilize the rhythm of human body. Awareness about the ill effects of drugs may help people from abstaining its use. State Excise Department in collaboration with Girijyothi College and its Anti-Addiction club and NSS Unit organized a bike rally on 26th June 2019 to inform the general public of the negative health effects of drinking and substance abuse. 50 students were participated in the bike rally and travelled from Alinchuvadu-Cheruthoni to Girijyothi College.
Students were given T-Shirts of ‘Vimukti Mission’ of Excise Department. It was a colourful event. The rally was flagged off by Ms. Rincy Sibi, President, Vazhathope Grama Panchayath. She addressed the public gathering at Cheruthoni town. Mr. TN Sudheer, Circle Inspector, Special Squad, Excise Department, Idukki, Mr. KM Jalaludeen, Member, Vazhathope Grama Panchayath, Mr. Jose Kuzhikandam, President, Merchant Association, Cheruthoni, Rev. Fr. Babu Mattathil CMI, Manager, Girijyothi College, Rev. Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal, Girijyothi College, Mr. Sivaprasad N, Co-ordinator, Anti-addiction Club, Girijyothi College, Mr. Akshay Mohandas, NSS Programme Officer, Mr. Vishnu Ravi, Asst. Programme Officer, NSS Unit and Mr. Justine TC, Student Representative, felicitated the programme. Mr. TN Sudheer conducted an awareness class for the students of Girijyothi College. It was very effective and useful. Excise department sponsored snacks and coffee for all students.


M. Com Finance Course – 25th June 2019

The sanction of M. Com Finance and Taxation, post graduate programme, by MG University during the academic year 2019-20 is a new feather to the cap of Girijyothi College. University has conducted inspection to grant two courses BA English Litreture Model I and M. Com Finance on 25th May 2019. Dr. P.K. Padmakumar, Member Syndicate, MG University, Kottayam, Mr. Jimmy Jans, Subject expert for English, St. Stephen’s College, Uzhavoor, Dr. Ajimon George, Subject expert for Commerce, Marian College, Kuttikkanam, were the members of inspection team. University has granted affiliation to start M. Com Finance with UO No. 2899/ACA7/2019.MGU 25.06.2019. Total number of seats is fixed as 20. The admission procedures are just started.


Opening of First Year Classes 2019-20 – 24th June 2019

New academic year for first year students opened on 24th June 2019. Official ceremony was conducted on 27th June with new dynamism. A change from school life to college life. The function started at 10:00 am. All students were welcomed with a rose flower. Rev. Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal, Girijyothi College, explained about the college and academic life. Ms. Sobhanakurmari KS and Ms. Jyothimol NR introduced CBCS system of the university. Mr. Sivaprasad N and Mr. Mathukutty KM shared motivational and study tips to the new buds of Girijyothi College.  The welcome ceremony ended at noon.


New Academic Year 2019-20 – 6th June 2019

New academic year has started on 6th June 2019. A shift from holiday mood to academic endeavour. Students were enjoying the vacation in different levels. Some of them spent more time in travel and entertainment. Some others have gone for some works to earn money for the family and their studies. Classes for second and third year students commenced with new enthusiasm. Regular classes started on the same day. New staff members also joined with the academic community of Girijyothi.


Stress Management for Working Women – 21st May 2019

A class on ‘Stress Management for Working Women’ was conducted at Girirani Hostel, Painavu by Rev. Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal, Girijyothi College. Women’s Council, Idukki, is managing the hostel. The programme was inaugurated by Ms. Rosakutty Abraham, Secretary, Women’s Council, Idukki. Fr. Toji has focused on different types of stress that the working women are faceing from home, office and society. An action plan to overcome the stress was presented with the aid of power point and by many living examples. Mr. Bince Varghese, Staff, Girijyothi College, Ms. Clesty Joveenus, Social Work Co-ordinator, Santhigram Welfare Centre, were the team members. Ms. Kumari Raveendranath, Ms. Mariyamma, Ms. Grance Antony, Members, Women’s Council, felicitated the gathering.


Women Empowerment Programme – 12th March 2019

Girijyothi College conducted women empowerment programme in association with JCI Idukki to commemorate World Women’s Day. Rev. Sr. Sibina Chettaniyil SABS led a class on “Personal Empowerment.” Ms. Rincy Sibi, President, Vazhathope Grama Panchayath, inaugurated the function. Ms. Binoy Honey, President, JCI Women’s Wing, Idukki, presided over the function. Mr. Reji John, President, JCI Idukki, Mr. Binoy Sebastian, Ex-President, JCI Idukki, Mr. Tomy John, Secretary, JCI Idukki, Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil, Principal, Girijyothi College, Ms. Mithra Benny, Ms. Sreekutty Soman, Ms. Jesna Rajeev, Members, Women’s Cell, Girijyothi College, felicitated the gathering. The programme aimed to empower the women folk in all respects. Lady students were actively participated in the programme. The programme concluded with national anthem.


Interview Training and Orientation for Group Discussion at Government ITI,
Kanjikuzhy – 11th March 2019

Girijyothi College conducted an interview training programme and group discussion orientation at government ITI Kanjikuzhy. Rev. Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal, Girijyothi College, conducted the class. How to appear before the interview board and the way of answering questions were discussed in detail. Tips were shared for participating in group discussions effectively. Students were divided into four groups and conducted demo group discussions. Mr. Sivaprasad N, Mr. Maneesh C Vijayan, Mr. Bince Varghese were the team members. Students appreciated the programme.


Campus Interview – 25th February 2019

Autobahn Trekking Corporation Pvt Ltd (Bharat Benz) conducted campus interview at Girijyothi College. Mr. Deepu, HR of the company and Mr. Sreekumar represented the Bharat Benz. They began with a general orientation class and personal interview. They have short listed nine of our students and on the completion of final exams they will be invited for the final interviews. The selected students will be sent for training. Those who successfully complete the training will get permanent appointment. This was a new initiative in the college. Students participated with enthusiasm and high amount of expectations. The interview session concluded in the afternoon.


College Day – 22nd February 2019


A day is set apart for jubilation. A day dedicated for fraternity and harmony. February 22nd was set apart for the big day of celebration Srishti 2K19. The programme was inaugurated by the renouned media celebrity of All India Radio and Dooradarshan and literary person Mr. Antony Muniyara. He has explained his own experiences in academic and literary filed. He said, a good person is to develop a literary mind and an academic perspective in thinking and study during the early stages.” He has offered one hour for performing various programme for our students at All India Radios. College has accepted his offer with gratitude. Rev. Fr. Paul Parakattel CMI, Provincial, Carmel Province, Muvattupuzha, presided over the function. Rev. Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal, Girijyothi College, presented the annual report of the academic year 2018-19. Mr. Midhun Joy, General Secretary, College Union, presented the report of the college union. Rev. Fr. Babu Mattathil CMI, Manager, Girijyothi College, Rev. Fr. Biju Vettukallel CMI, Principal, Girijyothi CMI Public School, Sri. Sivaprasad N., Staff Secretary, Ms. Sobhanakumari KS, Academic Co-ordinator and Ms. Beema Yoosuf, Student Representative, felicitated the gathering. Prizes for arts and sports events were distributed. Mr. Midhun Joy was selected as the best outgoing student by considering his academic and co-curricular performances. Ms. Arsha Gireesh, vice-chairperson, welcomed the gathering and Mr. Sunny Sudham, student representative, proposed vote of thanks. 

The afternoon was opened for various cultural programmes and joyful sharing of students. Students were actively involved in all programmes with dynamic attention and jubilation. Cultural diversity coloured the minds of students. Everybody relaxed with the entertainment programme. The programme was concluded with national anthem.


Campus Interview- 17th January 2019
Girijyothi Placement Cell organized campus interview for the final year students pursuing for B.Com Finance and Taxation, B.Com Computer Application and BA Economics. The members of the placement cell help each student in exploring placement opportunities by inviting various companies for Campus Recruitment of students. Our Placement Cell also provided complete support to the students in preparing CV, facing interviews and giving various tips for written test and GD. Star Health Insurance and Anson Chits and Finance visited our college and conducted recruitment drive. Mr. Noel Jacob and team conducted the interview and shortlisted some students for further screening.

Career Orientation – 16th January 2019

A Career Orientation Programme was conducted by Girijyothi College, Cheruthoni, at Government Higher Secondary School Thopramkudy. Rev. Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal, took the class for around hundred and fifty students. He emphasized students that hard work, perseverance and motivation are the essential requirements to fulfill their objectives and to succeed in life. He explained in detail the entrance examinations after plus two for higher studies. Different areas of study such as: medical, engineering, science, commerce and arts and their job opportunities were introduced to students. At the end of the programme a calendar of Girijyothi College with an invitation card stapled with toffee were distributed among students.  Interactive sessions and PowerPoint presentations were also held in the orientation class. The class was around 45 minutes. Mr. Bince Vagrhese, Office Assistant, Mr. Sunny Sudham, student representative, were also present in the programme.

He emphasized students that hard work, perseverance and motivation are the essential requirements to fulfill their objectives and to succeed in life. He explained in detail the entrance examinations after plus two for higher studies. Different areas of study such as: medical, engineering, science, commerce and arts and their job opportunities were introduced to students. At the end of the programme a calendar of Girijyothi College with an invitation card stapled with toffee were distributed among students.  Interactive sessions and PowerPoint presentations were also held in the orientation class. The class was around 60 minutes. Mr. Mohan Chacko, Administrative Officer, Mr. Bince Vagrhese, Office Assistant, Mr. Maneesh C Vijayan, Library Assistant, Mr. Rahul Raj and Soumya Sabu, student representatives, were also present in the programme.

Anti-Addiction Programme - 12th January 2019

A seminar was conducted at Girijyothi College, Cheruthoni on the Topic ‘Anti-Addiction.’ The seminar was organized by Mr. Jayan P John, Excise Range Office Idukki. Mr. Sivaprasad N, Staff co-ordinator of anti-addition club, welcomed the guest. Mr. Jayan P John and Mr. Sajeev K Joseph conducted the class with the aid of PowerPoint presentation. The effective class made the students aware of the ill effects of drug abuse. Mr. Jayan clearly explained the harmful effects of hazardous use of tobacco. He also emphasized the alarming number of youngsters involved in the drug trafficking and also warned the youth to keep away from these anti-socials and contraband items. The programme concluded with National Anthem.

NSS Seven Day Camp - 21st December 2018 - 27th December 2018

For the academic year 2018-2019 fifty students enrolled in the NSS unit of Girijyothi College out of which forty eight volunteers attended the seven day annual camp held at Mulakuvalli Vazhathope Grama Panchayat Idukki from 21st December to 27th December 2018.  St. Joseph LP School, Mulakuvalli was selected as the camping place. The vicar of church, Rev. Fr. Joseph Velinjalil, gave permission for the conduct of the camp.

 As per the direction from the University on 21st December 2018 Friday evening, all the NSS volunteers along with the programme officer Mr. Ouseph Augustine, Mr. Akshay Mohandas Camp Assistant, lady representative Miss Chandini Prasad, student volunteer secretaries Mr. Roney Joseph and Ms. Jesna Rajeev moved to the camp.

NSS lady volunteer Jesna Rajeev anchored the programme. NSS programme officer Mr. Ouseph Augustine officially welcomed all the distinguished guests. Girijyothi College Manager, Rev. Fr. Babu Mattathil CMI gave the presidential address. Vazhathope Grama Panchayat president, Ms. Rincy Siby made the inaugural speech and hoisted the NSS Flag. Volunteers clapped the NSS clap and sang the NSS song. Rev. Fr. Joseph Velinjalil, Vicar of Mulakuvalli, Rev. Fr Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, principal of Girijyothi College, Mr. Babu Palakkeel, Vazhathope Grama Panchayat Vice president, Ms. Alice Jose, Chairperson for health and education Vazhathope Grama Panchayat felicitated the gathering.

The main work of the NSS volunteers was to remove the mud and soil deposited from two houses due to land slide and heavy rain occurred in the month of August 2018. Names of house owners are Mr. Joseph Pichappillil, Mr. Sivan Kunnel, Mr. Pappukunju Athikkal and Mr. Mayilakkuzhiyil Salu. volunteers also collected the details regarding alcohol consumption among the people in the 2nd & 3rd wards of Vazhathope Grama Panchayat. The volunteers were divided into 10 groups. This survey helped the students in understanding the problems faced by the people because of alcohol consumption.

Civil Excise Officer Mr. Jayan P John took an effective and authentic class about drug abuse with the help of projector and slides. The effective class made the volunteers aware of the ill effects of drug abuse. Fr. Joseph Velinjalil, vicar of Mulakuvally, who is also the Judge of the family court, Idukki Catholic Diocese, took a class on “Intensive Orientation for Family Life in this Modern Society.” The volunteers were much attentive in this class which dealt with the problems faced by the young children in the modern society. An effective class was taken by Vazhathope Junior Health Inspector Ms Jiby about health awareness. She explained the need to take healthy food and suggested precaution to keep away certain diseases. Besides the coordinators, members of faculty from Girijyothi College also oversaw the proceedings in the camp. On the Christmas day, all the volunteers along with the programme officers and staff members went for trekking to Palkulamedu. Palkulamedu being a beautiful mountain, many tourists come from different parts of the state and country. The experience of climbing the hill through the grassy rout was an unforgettable experience for all the volunteers. On this day Vazhathope Grama Panchayat President Ms. Rincy Siby visited the camp and evaluated the activities of the NSS volunteers. She also gifted Christmas Cakes for the volunteers. Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil, Principal, visited the camp on 26th December and evaluated the activities. A detailed evaluation of the camp was conducted in the afternoon. All the volunteers gathered around the fire in the evening by performing different programmes. They danced to the tune of the music. The most amazing and exhilarating event was the campfire which was held on the last day.


And the last day, NSS Programme officer Mr. Ouseph Augustine welcomed Fr Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI the Principal of Girijyothi College as the Chief Guest. The best male camper Mr. Alen Jose, Female camper Ms. Sherin Kunjumon, the best co-ordinator Mr. Justine T.C, the best male entertainer male Mr. Sujeesh S. Sunil, the best female entertainer  Ms. Jesna Rajeev were given prizes. After the official programme the camp was declared closed. Students returned to their houses by noon. 

Christmas & New Year Celebration – 21st December 2018

A joyful Christmas and New Year celebration was conducted at Girijyothi College, Cheruthoni. The celebrations were outstanding along with various class wise competitions such as Crib, Carol Song, Tableau and Santa Claus. Along with the celebrations, more importance is also given to the academic excellence by honouring the 2nd and 3rd year students who achieved 100% success in University exams. College Principal Rev. Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI gladly announced that the CMI Congregation would waive the tuition fee of four students whose houses were damaged by landslide and flood for the academic year 2018-19.


Snehathinte Thanal – 20th December 2018

As part of the Christmas and New Year celebration, students and staff of Girijyothi College decided to do a benchmarking charitable activity. In this respect they collected cloths from different places and gifted to the inmates of Snehamandiram, Padamukham, Idukki. The celebrations also included cutting of a Christmas cake and distributed it to all the inmates and students. Sri. Midhun Joy, General secretary, Girijyothi College sang the Christmas song. College Principal Rev. Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI and Snehamandiram representative Ms. Shyni Raju addressed the gathering. ‘Snehathinte Thanal’ was flagged off by College Manager Rev. Fr. Babu Mattathil CMI. Fifty students visited Snehamandiram by using college bus.

Anganwadi Christmas Celebration – 19th December 2018

Girijyothi College, Cheruthoni, celebrated Christmas with the children of Vazhathope Anganwadi. Anganwadi children and staff made a crib.The anganwadi was decorated with stars, festoons, Christmas tree and ribbons.Rev. Fr. Babu Mattathil CMI, Manager, Girijyothi College inaugurated the celebrations. Rev. Fr.Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal, Girijyothi College gave cakes and gifts to the children in Anganwadi. Staff and students of Girijyothi College felicitated the kids.

Need of Young Entrepreneurs-23rd November 2018

Entrepreneurship Development (ED) Club of Girijyothi College made a seminar section regarding the need of entrepreneurs in our society. Mr. Vishnu Mohandas, Fashion Model and Multicultural Ambassador of Australian football league, made an interactive session with the students. He said that he was so proud to work at Australia as a representative of India. He also gave some valuable information about Australian football and also gave positive response for the request made from the college about practice for the students who are interested in football. Rev. Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal, Girijyothi College, Mrs. Jyothimol N R, Assistant Professor, ED Club co-in-charge, Sri. Godwin Roy, Student Secretary, ED Club, Ms. Jesnamol Rajeev and Mr. Jestin T C delivered speeches. The programme concluded with National Anthem.

College Union Inauguration & Keralapiravi-22nd November 2018

The College Union inauguration and Keralapiravi function was presided over by Rev.Fr. Babu Mattathil CMI, Manager, Girijyothi College. Welcome address was delivered by Kumari Arsha Gireesh, Vice Chairperson. The Chief Guest of the inaugural function was Mr. B. Rahul, Assistant, Wild Life Forest Warden, Idukki. In his speech, he quoted that “A good leader should be honest, trustworthy, enthusiastic and source of inspiration”. He also spoke about the use of drugs and over usage of mobile phones among students. Mr. Ajith P K, new Chairman delivered a speech. Rev. Fr.Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal, Girijyothi College and Ms. Shobhanakumari, Staff coordinator felicitated the gathering. A Guruvandanam was conducted by the students for senior teachers. Mr. Sivaprasad N, Ms. Sobhanakumari were honoured with ‘Ponnada’. Mr. Sivaprasad N, Staff Secretary, thanked the students on behalf of all staff members. The event was concluded by the vote of thanks by Mr. Anumon K B, Magazine Editor. Students staged diverse cultural programme. Media Club staged a fashion show. It was really fantastic. The outstanding performance of students really bagged big applause of the audience. A DJ programme by Dheeru Beatz, Kochi made the function more beautiful. Programme concluded with National Anthem.

PTA General Body-5th October 2018

The first General Body meeting of the PTA of the academic year 2018-2019 was held on 5th October 2018. Rev. Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal addressed the parents and informed them of the rules and regulations of the college. Principal has presented a class to parents on the topic “Adolescence and its impacts on students”. He explained about the physical, mental, emotional, attitudinal changes and allied impacts. Gandhi Jayanthi Cleaning Programme-2nd October 2018

The NSS unit of Girijyothi College, Idukki conducted a cleanup campaign in the premises of Government Medical College Hospital, Idukki. The doctors of the hospital, Dr.Manikandan, Dr.Navas, Dr.Arun, Dr.Athul Vinayan, Dr.Sivaprasad, Dr.Suma and Nurse Simi Joseph welcomed the students along with Principal, Rev. Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil, CMI, NSS co-ordinators and staff members. Dr.Navas made a speech regarding the importance of October 2nd giving emphasis to the Gandhian principles and values, followed by the speech of Dr. Arun. The cleanup campaign was inaugurated by Dr. Manikandan, Medical Superintendent.

The volunteers were given glouses and masks for the cleaning. The members cleaned the hospital premises by picking up the plastic bags and bottles scattered there. Natural calamity is really affected Idukki region. Many houses were damaged due to land sliding. NSS volunteers removed the soil deposited due to landslide from the two houses owned by Mr. Vahab Thattaseril, Cheruthoni and Mr. Shahul Azis, Othupallikal, Gandhinagar Colony, Cheruthoni.


After the cleaning at 01:00 pm Dr. Arun and Dr.Suma gave an effective class about diseases such as cancer and obesity. They also imparted knowledge regarding the symptoms and possible precautions. The hospital authority sponsored lunch to all the volunteers and the staff. Finally, all the NSS volunteers were given preventive medicine for Leptospirosis.

Oath Taking Ceremony-25th September 2018

The newly elected college union, in consultation with the principal, fixed the day of oath taking ceremony on 25th September 2018. Mr. Sivaprasad N., returning officer, invited the candidates for the ceremony. The representatives took the oath before the Principal, Rev.  Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI. All staff and students attended the ceremony. The programme concluded with National Anthem.

College Union Election-11th September 2018

The College Union election as per the directions of the University was conducted on 11th September 2018.Election was conducted on presidential mode. Mr. Sivaprasad N was appointed as the returning officer. Mr. Mathukutty K.M as the presiding officer and Mr. Ouseph Augustine as the observer.

The entire student community actively took part in the election and cast their vote in choosing their representatives. Unlike the boys, each girl had 2 votes-one for the class leader and the other for the girl’s representative. Voting started at 09:30 am and ended at 11:15 am. Result of the class representatives were declared at 11:30 am. Then in the afternoon new nomination was submitted at 01:30 pm for the election of college union officials. Voting was conducted at 02:05 pm. Final result came out at 04:30 pm. For the smooth running of the election police force was present in the campus.

Teachers Day Celebration- 5th September 2018

Girijyothi College celebrated teacher’s day on September 5, 2018 with great zeal and zest. The students voluntarily came forward to take over the duties of the teachers and presented classes at each class. A special meeting was held in the auditorium in which the students paid homage to their teachers through poems and speeches. Mr. Sivaprasad N, the staff secretary, thanked the students on behalf of the staff. They cut a cake as a token of appreciation. Students honoured teachers by exchanging flowers and words of appreciation. Ms. Sreekutty Soman and Mr. Nikhil Anil delivered felicitations.

Survey-14th September 2018

Students of Girijyothi College were deputed for a survey at Kanjikizhy Grama Panchayat, to collect details regarding the people who affected the recent natural calamity. The students associated with the Panchayat were directed to take photos of the houses that are damaged due to calamity and upload in the website of the government called “Rebuild Kerala.” Asha workers, Anganwadi workers and Kudumbasree members are accompanied with them. They visited 2nd and 3rd wards of the Panchayat and took two days for completing this survey. Panchayat Accountant Mr. K G Joshi, Panchayat Technical Assistant Mr. Jibin Thomas and Data entry operator Mr. Varghese conducted preparatory classes regarding the mode of operation. Rev. Fr.Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal, Girijyothi College, Sri.Sajailal Saji, Chairman, delivered speech. Government announced 20 marks as grace marks to the students who are involved in the survey.

Freshers’ Day - 8th August 2018

Girijyothi College celebrated Freshers’ Day on 8th August 2018. It was a welcome party to the new comers and the programme stressed the need for maintaining friendliness and cooperation among students. Senior students gave a grant welcome to the juniors. They welcomed the juniors by offering sweets and warm words of appreciation. Juniors were given various tasks to introduce themselves to the college. It was accompanied by many colorful events and programs.


Support for Kuttanadu – 6th August 2018

A dangerous flood hit Kuttanadu and the lives of people with heavy damages. The flood water submerged the entire region and forced a large number of families to leave their homes and settled in relief camps. The disaster struck us unexpectedly and caused extensive damage to the state’s infrastructure also. There were losses of houses, appliances and domestic animals in the wake of the disastrous flood that hit the region in early August 2018. Our college under the leadership of NSS unit raised in the need of the hour and helped flood affected people of Kuttanadu. They collected essential materials from our students, staff and various shops in an around Cheruthoni and the same was handed over to Rev. Fr. Mathew Manjakunnel CMI, Councillor for Social Apostolate, Carmel Province, Muvattupuzha. They distributed it to the highly needy people at Kainakary region of Kuttanadu. The whole relief stuff amounted to about sixty thousand rupees. It was a benchmarking involvement of the college.

International Academic Discussions in Girijyothi College - 27th June 2018

One of the Researchers of Oxford University and the Representative of UNO, Mr. Albert Van Wijngaarden visited our college and shared some valuable hours with our students. After a long speech about various topics like Research, Parliamentary Matters, E-commerce, International Trade and Monetary affairs, he interacted with our students. He also gave some valuable information about Oxford University and advised the students to join there for higher studies and research by availing scholarship benefits. On the occasion, the management of Girijyothi College reiterated their commitment to groom and develop our student’s community to an international level. The programme was convened by the leadership of E.D Club. Rev. Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal, Mr. Sivaprasad N., Staff Secretary, Ms. Sobhanakumari K.S, Academic Coordinator and Staff Coordinator of ED Club, Mr. Mathukutty K.M, Department of English delivered felicitations.

Welcoming the First Years- 23rd June 2018

It was a beautiful occasion when the first years came to our college after their successful schooling. The light of knowledge was given to the students by Rev. Fr. Babu Mattathil CMI, manager and Rev. Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal. Afterwards Principal made a presentation to the students explaining in detail the history and origin of Girijyothi College, its vision and mission and rules and regulations. Afterwards, various orientation programmes were conducted for the students by the teachers such as: university academic programme, study methodology and good personality development.

We celebrated Environmental day by giving life to a plant. Rev. Fr. Babu Mattathil CMI, the Manager planted a guava tree in front of the College. Nature club coordinator Mr.Ouseph Augustine gave a message to the student community regarding the relevance of protecting the environment. Nature club took the initiative to celebrate the world environmental day meaningfully.
