Confero-
2k17, the prestigious annual inter-college debate competition of Girijyothi College,
Cheruthoni, was conducted on 27th January 2017. “Demonetization” was selected as the topic
for the contest.
The
registrations began at 9:00 am in the college campus. Fifteen teams registered
for the participation. A team consisted of two members each. Nirmala College,
Muvattupuzha, Marsleeva College, Rajamudy, Christ College, Puliyanmala and
Marian College, Kuttikanam made their representations with two teams each and
Santhigiri College, Vazhithala, St. Joseph College, Moolamattom, MA College,
Kothamangalam, SSM College, Rajakadu and Co- operative School of Law,
Thodupuzha brought in their representation with a team each. The students of
Girijyothi College too participated in the competition with two teams.
The
competition began with the inaugural session at 10:30 am. Rev Fr. Toji
Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal, Girijyothi College, Cheruthoni, inaugurated the competition
by lighting the lamp and then the venue was opened for the competition. Rev.
Fr. Johnson Palapallil CMI, Principal Sanjo CMI Public School, Koduvely, Moderated
the sessions. Rev. Fr. Vineeth
Vazhaikudiyil CMI, Teacher, Kalvari High School, Kalvarimount, Mr.
Thomas Issac, Senior Manager, Federal Bank, Thopramkudy, and Ms. Preetha K.
Menon, Chief Manager , Women’s Cell IDCB, Idukki, served as the judges for the
competition.
The
participents from each team were asked to present their ideas within ten
minutes. The internal dynamism of the debate was: one member supports the theme
with five minutes and other opposed the topic with the remaining five minutes.
During
the afternoon session the ground was opened for open debate. The competition was
over by 3:00 pm and the results were announced. Chest No. K. 12, Kevin Joseph
and Jocelyn Joseph of Nirmala College Muvattupuzha won the first prize with
ever rolling trophy and Rs. 7000/-as cash prize. Chest No. K. 04, Annmaria Sabu and Nibin K Roy
of MA College Kothamangalam won the second prize with ever rolling trophy and
Rs. 4000/- as cash award. The Best Debater and The Best Performer awards too
were announced. Nibin K. Roy of MA College Kothamangalam was awarded as The
Best Debater and Kevin Joseph of Nirmala College Muvattupuzha was awarded as
The Best Performer. All participants got participation certificate. Lunch was
arranged for the contestants on demand. Providing ample opportunities for the participants
as well as the students the program came to an end exactly at 3:30 pm.
