READING DAY AND FATHERS DAY   FUNCTION

Girijyothi College Cheruthoni conducted reading day and father’s day function combined on 22^nd June 2016. Mr. N.P.Sunny, Principal St. George higher secondary school, Vazhathope, inaugurated the function by lightening the “Akshara Deepam” which throws light towards the enlightenment. He stressed the importance of reading and the chaos caused due to the lack of reading. A set of three competitions were conducted as part of the function.

The main programme of the day was a collective reading. Staff and students of Girijyothi College sat together and read an essay entitled “Herman Guntertum daishnikathayude samskarika charithavum” by Sunil P. Ilayidom, published in the journal Malayalam on the June 2016 issue. This helped in instilling in students the real depth of reading.

Anu Babu of II B.Com was the master of the ceremonies. Ebin Paulose, student union chairman welcomed the gathering. Rev. Fr. Babu Mattathil CMI, Manager, Girijyothi College, delivered the Presidential address which was filled with thought provoking words. Rev. Fr. Toji Puthenkaduppil CMI, Principal, Girijyothi College, Cheruthoni, in his felicitation brought out his valuable ideas on reading especially being friends of ‘letters’, and the role of father in the development of children. Academic coordinator and staff representative Ms. Sobhanakumari too felicitated the gathering with her valuable words. Babitha U.R. of II B.Com proposed vote of thanks and thus the function came to an end.

 Competitions were conducted to bring out as well as to identify the talents of the students at diverse levels. Initially to explore the creativity of the students caption writing competition was conducted. It was succeed by a competition to test the memory capacity of the students wherein they were asked to write the names of Fathers of different fields. Thus, with the brainstorming activities the session ended.
